The Preschool of the Arts is based on the belief that children are naturally curious and eager to learn. Using the philosophy of the Reggio Emilia Schools in Reggio, Italy, children are respected and valued for the knowledge they already possess. The role of the teacher is to facilitate and pose questions designed to support the natural curiosity in each child, scaffolding their learning in authentic ways. Explorations of various art forms are provided to engage the child by use of his/her multiple intelligences.
The new Indiana Preschool Foundations in literacy, math, and science provide a framework for a natural transition to kindergarten.
Preschool of the Arts in MSD Lawrence Township utilizes a research based, child focused curriculum called HighScope. The HighScope Preschool Curriculum not only helps young children excel in language and cognitive learning but also promotes independence, curiosity, decision-making, cooperation, persistence, creativity, and problem solving-the fundamental skills that help determine success in adult life.
